Mission Designer

 

AAA open-world ARPG based on the Harry Potter series

 

Highlights:

- Owned 3 main missions & 3 side-quest missions
- Collaborated with narrative & systems teams to implement content for a dedicated set of missions utilizing Unreal Engine Blueprints
- Evaluated mission content against core mission objectives & design goals
- Collaborated with various systems teams to fine-tune each mission element according to evaluation findings

Mission/Level Design Process

 

Mission Flowchart & Documentation - 

 

Upon arriving at Avalanche, I utilized the flowcharts and mission design documentation for each of my assigned missions, spending extensive time reviewing each of the narrative beats, quest log objectives, and checkpoints to ensure everything was in place and up to date when compared to the mission as it had been implemented to that point.

​I then worked with my Producer to fine-tune portions of each mission where playtesters were getting stuck, created fixes for bugs assigned to me from QA, and continuously playtested to find potential bugs myself.

Blue Printing in UE4 - â€‹â€‹

Afterward, I began to review NPC schedules, VO placements, AI movements for narrative beats, talk-to prompts, quest beacons, quest objectives, and descriptions, along with their associated hint VOs. Some of which were set up through our proprietary tools.

​

Once I verified that each of my missions had complete design documentation and was representative of our Lead Mission Designer's vision, I set to work understanding the visual scripting system (UE4 BluePrinting) that had been set up for each. Working with my Lead and fellow Mission Designers, I was able to reorganize and simplify parts of the coding to prevent future gameplay errors.

Proactive Adjustments & Bug Fixes -

Next, I fine-tuned portions of each mission where playtesters were getting stuck, created fixes for bugs assigned to me from QA, and continuously playtested to find potential bugs myself working to proactively fix each one.

Additional Implementations - 

​

As we entered the final stage of production, a handful of teams were in need of additional help with implementing various pieces of content into each of our missions. 

​

Due to the low amount of bugs that required fixing at this stage, I was available to allocate time toward assisting the audio team with choosing specific music for each of my assigned missions and implement that music into each mission. I also assisted with implementing updated voice-over files using Articy.

​

This saved both time and budget for our project and ensured that these missions had all of their content included at the time of release.

Trials of Merlin

 

Trials of Merlin is the thirteenth main quest within Hogwarts Legacy; where you assist a budding researcher in fending off Ashwinders, and begin to uncover the legacy of one of the greatest wizards to ever live. 

In The Shadow Of The Mine

 

In the Shadow of the Mine is the thirty-third main quest within Hogwarts Legacy; where you infiltrate the Overlook Mine, and seek to retrieve an additional piece of the triptych.

In The Shadow Of The Mountain

 

In the Shadow of the Mountain is the thirty-sixth main quest within Hogwarts Legacy; where you join Sebastian in the search for the third and final piece of the Undercroft triptych, hoping to discern more about Isidora and her magical abilities.

Gobs Of Gobstones

 

Zenobia Noke is one character players will run into that will offer a side quest, specifically one called "Gobs of Gobstones." This is one of the earliest quests available in the game, and it will see players running all around Hogwarts grounds looking for the character's stolen Gobstones. In doing so, the player will be able to better navigate the castle, as it is vast and the gobstones can be found everywhere.

A Friend In Deed

 

This side-quest asks you to visit Sirona Ryan at The Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade. She'll ask you to visit a friend Dorothy Sprottle in Upper Hogsfield and pick up a box of letters left behind in a cavern by her late husband. Learn about Sirona's upbringing at Hogwarts and her friendship with the Sprottles.

The House Cup

 

The House Cup is the second main quest post-game within Hogwarts Legacy and acts as the game's True Ending; where you attend the House Cup Ceremony in the Great Hall, and see if your House is the victor!
